Our Operating Partner

In 2023, Andy O’Brien joined Banyan as an Operating Partner. Andy works closely with the Banyan team to explore investment opportunities in the food & beverage, consumer products and retail sectors.

Andy is an accomplished executive with over 30 years’ experience in the food business in numerous leadership and board roles.

Prior to joining Banyan, he was the Chief Executive Officer of M&M Food Market where he led numerous strategic initiatives and ultimately led the business through its successful sale to Parkland Corporation in 2022.

Prior to his experience with M&M Food Market, Andy led the purchase of The WORKS Gourmet Burger Bistro and, as the President, was responsible for leading the brand and marketing strategy, franchise network development and overall growth of the business. During his tenure, the business grew from five corporate restaurants to a network of over 30 franchise locations, which was then sold to MTY.

Previously, Andy was the President of Montana’s BBQ & Bar and Kelseys Original Roadhouse, both full-service restaurants with over 275 locations across Canada. Before that, he spent more than 15 years in consumer packaged goods, rising through the ranks of brand management.

Andy’s strong track record of consistently delivering exceptional performance spans multiple consumer-facing industries, countries and organizations with a broad skill set in brand strategy, business development, product development, franchising, real estate and finance.


Together, we are seeking an opportunity that exhibits the following characteristics:

Investment: Control position (51% – 100%) with flexibility on post-transaction involvement from existing ownership group and management team​.

Situation: Established business that is founder-led, sponsor-backed or a division of a large corporation seeking a carve-out.


Industry: Branded, consumer-focused businesses in food and non-food manufacturing, retail and services. 

We are interested in franchised and non-franchised brand businesses in the following, but not limited to, segments:

  • Quick-service and full-service restaurants
  • Automotive
  • Health & Beauty
  • Food manufacturing
  • Pet and household products
  • CPG businesses
  • Grocery, convenience and other retailers

Business type: Manufacturer, service provider, multi-location restaurant or retailer focused on branded consumer products and food with existing consumer awareness and demand along with positive consumer macro trends.

Size: Minimum $3 million of EBITDA on a sustainable basis.

Location: Headquartered in Canada or the U.S.
